You know that feeling, lack of motivation, blah-ness, sluggishness….
I call it the I don’t wanna winter blues.
Yep, it’s that time of year for sure.
So, I take my vitamin D every day as instructed.
Then, I sit in front of my sun therapy light at work.
And, I do yoga…sometimes anyway. I admit my lack of perfection openly.
Despite following the common practices, I was really feeling the cold days and the long dark nights. They were really getting to me. I was irritable, grumpy, and I really didn’t wanna (insert anything here).
Even those things I normally love and that I know will help me feel better. Nope, I didn’t want to do those things either. It has that all encompassing effect, doesn’t it? You know the feeling, sets in around early February. The holidays are long past and warm weather still feels centuries away.
So what did I do?
I got off my rear, and hopped on the treadmill.
Even though I didn’t want to. But, it was around 17 degrees outside and my ‘tude wasn’t pleasant. I should add this happened after my husband gave me a kick in the pants (thank you honey!)
Yep, you heard me right.
I took a little run. OMG did it help! By the time I stepped off the treadmill I was feeling energized.
Never underestimate the healing power of exercise.
You gotta move that body!
Run or walk or dance or swim….Do what you do. Just DO it.
Even if you really, REALLY, don’t want to.
And if you don’t feel better right away, you may need to give it some time. Consistency can be a game changer.
Your body will thank you and so will your mind. And so will your loved ones and co-workers. I’m not kidding.
Get yourself moving for at least 20 minutes. Gear up your favorite upbeat songs and go. Do this every day. It doesn’t have to be vigorous exercise every time, but try to get your heart rate up at least 3 times a week. It really, REALLY does help!
Bonus happy trick: Stand in the sun. I know it doesn’t come out some days, but when you see it, jump at the
opportunity to soak in some rays, even if it’s 10 degrees out. It only takes a few minutes to strike a sun salutation pose and greet the sun. I promise.
